E-cigarettes do not normalise smoking for young people – study

In a recent study, it has been noted that the rapid increase in use of the e-cigarettes hasn’t led to more number of British children taking up cigarette smoking or regarding smoking as a daily activity.

Some of the health experts & anti-smoking groups expressed concerns that growth of the e-cigarette use just might normalize the concept of smoking among young people. However, this study by researchers at the Cardiff University suggests that the total number of youngsters who tried smoking or mentioned it as acceptable has steadily fallen regardless of the use of e-cigarettes.

This study was published in journal named Tobacco Control and examined data acquired from Wales, Scotland, and England. It was found that between the year 1998 and 2015 the number of children aged from 13 to 15 addicted to smoke decreased from the mark of 60 percent to 19 percent. However, the number of regular smokers belonging to the same group fell down from 19 percent to 5 percent.

It was also reported that youngsters who reported trying cigarette to be an “OK” task dropped down in number from 70 percent in the year 1999 to 27 percent in 2015.
