Now here comes good news for general fans of dystopian fiction, YA lovers and Panem as we are now getting a Hunger Games prequel novel by next year. According to the statement by author Suzanne Collins, her currently untitled novel will be published on 19th May 2020, and that means it will be more than a decade since The Hunger Games initially came out, it is less than a year away.
As per the author, this prequel will be all set 64 years before the events of the original trilogy, that is at the time of Panem’s ‘Dark Days,’ i.e., the reconstruction period that happened ten years following the first rebellion. It means that the upcoming novel prequel will cover what first Hunger Games were like and in what way Panem dealt with the consequences of the war.
Collins supposed ‘with this book I wanted to explore the state of nature, who we are and what we make out is required for our survival. the reconstruction period ten years following the wear which is referred to as the dark days owing to the country of Panem struggles back to its feet offers fertile ground for characters to tackle with several queries and thereby classify their outlook of humanity.
As in the previous novels in series, i.e., 74 years, prior to the main novels and ten years prior to the new prequel the 13 districts of Panem struggled against the Capital. However, the rebellion was put down along with twelve of the districts which [it back under capital power as well as the system of the Hunger Games instituted to tell the Districts of their place again. This new upcoming prequel will be set ten years following that rebellion. However, if the author statement is anything to go by, it seems as things will not be quite settled yet.
This prequel has long been discussed at Lions gate as a viewpoint. The studio debuted its initial four films based on the Hunger Games novels in 2012 which feature Jennifer Lawrence and successfully collected about 3 billion dollars at the box office globally. However, this news comes as a big surprise, but it is not the first time that there is a discussion about the Hunger Games prequel.
The author has been quite on the matter, but the Lions gate was conversing for years for prequel stories. It was in 2015 when the last movie came out, and director Francis Lawrence suggested for its own idea for a prequel which should be set during the Dark days as well as reconstruction.
