SmartThings Camera
This camera is Samsung’s first leap into making a smart camera for the home. It is a full HD 180p camera that comes with HDR and an impressive 145-degree wide angle lens.
It runs on wifi which is a huge advantage as this eliminates the need to use the SmartThings hub to connect the camera to one’s smart home. It also comes with a two-way audio system which enables a person to speak on both ends of the camera.
It is supposed to cost about $90 and pairs with Google Assistant, Bixby and Amazon Alexa.
One is permitted to connect up to 4 SmartThings Cameras for free, the excess will be chargeable at $7.99 a month and $80 a year. The four free camera connection will include 24-hour rolling cloud video storage.
SmartThings Wifi Smart Plug
Just like the camera, the Wifi Smart plug runs on Wifi which means there is no need of a SmartThings hub. It took can connect on Amazon’s Alexa, Google’s Assistant and Bixby. It will cost around $18.
This Smart Plug is different than the other ones out there namely from PureGear and ConnectSense. This is one does not have a USB port on the side unlike the others and it consists of a manual switch on the side in case your Wifi is down and you have no connectivity.
SmartThings Smart Bulb
The last product to be added to the SmartThings line is the smart bulb. It only costs $9.99 as it was not made to compete with the other high-end models that exist out there.
As this smart bulb is Zigbee and Z-Wave enabled, it will require a SmartThings hub to connect it. Having said that, it is an energy efficient LED and is a 9 Watt bulb. It is dimmable and has a voice control feature which works with Bixby, Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa. One can even use this feature via the SmartThings App.
By launching the SmartThings line, Samsung aims to take steps toward a simple and smart setup at home and even a hubless one. The SmartThings line is a very easy way of making one’s home into a smart home.
At present the SmartThings platform works with 60 different companies which include over 600 devices that it is compatible with.
