Today BMW announces there that it is speeding up its electric car plans by two years and reveal latest electric vehicle concepts and displaying its most recent technology. Yesterday at its NEXTGen event in Munich it said that it is now planning to have 25 modified models in 2023 i.e., two years ahead of schedule.

It announced that more than half of the vehicle would be fully electric and this step came as European carmakers face an unprecedented challenge to their profitable business model as chief markets from the UK to the rest of EU to China; plan out to decarbonize road transport.

CEO of BMW, Harald Kruger, announced ‘We are moving up a gear in the transformation towards sustainable mobility, by making our company fit for future. In prior to years, we have continuously taken many decisions that we are now bringing on the roads. Also, by 2021, we have doubled our sales of electrified vehicles in comparison with 2019. We will also provide 25 electrified vehicles already in 2023. Our sales of electrified vehicles should perk up y an average of 30 percent every year,’

He also alleged that BMW would be open in principle to future collaborations with other carmakers. The amount of money you require to spend in the future it will not be possible without cooperation.’ He added that ‘that is why it is so challenging for us as we need to develop three or four different technologies at the same time.’

By the end of this year, they have the Mini Electric coming and to go on sale next year they also have the BMW iNEXT as well as the all-electric crossover to brought in the market i.e., in 2021. Previously this year BMW revealed that the latest iX3, i4 along with iNEXT electric vehicle prototypes throughout the winter testing. BMW is talking in terms of 25 electrified models, and that comprises plug-in hybrids, which are a crucial segment of the automaker’s electrification plans.

The company has enlarged its range of luxury vehicles which are much more profitable to assist fund the development of options to the internal combustion engine i.e., battery electric vehicles, hybrids as well as hydrogen fuel cell power. At present BMW only sells one fully electric model the i3; however, this will increase to five within two years.

It is still unclear that what would be the additional products but it will offer new PHEV versions of the 3series, 7 series, X3 as well as X5.
