A British architecture student named Jyothi Pillay was discovered dead last year in April while she was camping along a remote coast near Mont-joli in Percé, Quebec, states a report read at her inquest on Wednesday.
According to the autopsy report of Pillay, a postgraduate student at the Central Saint Martins College in London, she hadn’t consumed alcohol or drugs before death.
Avon Coroner’s Court arrived at a conclusion of Pillay’s accidental drowning.
The court heard that Pillay, 27 was discovered by a paddle boarder on 9 April last year. The student’s body was half submerged in water, along with her personal belongings. She was immediately rushed to the hospital by the paramedics where the doctors pronounced her dead.
Steve Poisson, a Canadian coroner in Quebec said in the report that Pillay bought a sleeping bag on 7 April and then hitchhiked to Percé along with two other individuals who were last to see her alive.
After she reached the coastal town, Pillay headed to the beach and didn’t utilize her ATM card ever again.
All of this information led coroner Poisson to reach to a conclusion that Pillay probably died on April 8 due to drowning.
When the news of Pillay’s tragic death emerged, her family, friends as well as teacher paid tributes to her online and described her as ‘idealistic and smart’ having a ‘great sense of humour.’
