Narendra Modi of the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) has been successful for the second time yet as he retains his position of Prime Minister after this year’s elections. His party won even more seats than what they had in the 2014 elections, showing how India supports him and his nationalist Ideology.
The voting process lasted about six weeks where about 900 million people could potentially cast their votes.
It was on Thursday that the votes were counted and the results declared Modi and his party to be victorious as they won many more seats than any other party.
PM Modi in the previous weeks called himself a ‘Chowkidar’ or watchman and promised to clutch onto that spirit. He even spent the day by thanking all the foreign leaders who congratulated in over the popular social platform, Twitter.
Modi addressed the crowd on Thursday at his party’s headquarters in New Delhi saying that this victory was not just his but also the nation’s youth. It was a victory for mother’s who just needed a clean toilet, for the sick who couldn’t pay for treatments and poor people to finally move into a place with a roof that they could call home.
Modi expresses how we should go ahead and work as a team for a better future. We must include everyone even the ones who are opposing us.
Hindu nationalist has quite an impact and influence in the politics for India, the law and even policies. The Muslims have gained focus as they have been the target in a series of violent acts.
Spokesperson Vijay Chauthaiwale from BJP addressed that just prior to Modi taking office in 2014, there were riots. And that every riot is bad. He then says we should protect all the citizens of India and make sure they can use their rights.
In Modi’s first tenure, he promised to simplify the working of the bureaucracy which did lead to a boom in the economy; but on the other hand, the unemployment remains to be on a high that has been ongoing since 40 long years.
It was part of Modi’s election campaign to address issues that were social and religious in nature. The light was shed on India’s national security as there were new conflicts that took place with Pakistan. It was in February that India exchanged airstrikes with Pakistan which makes national security a very important subject.
On Thursday Pakistan tested a dangerous missile that is capable of starting a nuclear battle.
Director of a Mumbai based think tank called Gateway House, Neelam Deo claimed that Mod’s victory would have an impact that is positive especially on his foreign policies. She continues to say that Modi will be taken more sincerely as it is the Indian economy which is one of the fastest growing economies in the world which will continue to spread west more than even earlier.
She also said that young voters were receptive with Modi’s party especially on social media.
A young voter, Ayushi expresses her joy after hearing the results that were declared on Thursday. She says she is hopeful to see more women getting jobs and power in the future.
But not all faces were that of happiness and joy.
Ms. Simran, a lady who worked as a manager in American Express was absolutely appalled by Modi’s victory. She had nothing but disgust with the results and said that the one in power is just behind money and power. She went on to say that the last term served by Modi was the worst she had ever seen.
Rahul Gandhi who was the strong opposition candidate from the INC said he respected the decision that India made by crowing Modi as the next PM. Gandhi even lost in Amethi (Uttar Pradesh) which is his family’s hometown.
