If you were worried about a few plans that Facebook had about WhatsApp, we have good news for you. Facebook has shelved its plans to introduce ads on WhatsApp. So, the world’s most popular instant messaging service will continue to be ad-free.
For the uninitiated, Facebook has been planning monetisation of WhatsApp for over two years. In fact, the plans were to bring ads on WhatsApp status. This was the reason why the original WhatsApp founders decided to exit from the initiative.
WhatsApp was all set to get ads, and it was also showcased through a preview at the Facebook Marketing Summit last year. Given the fact that Facebook earns most of its revenue through ads, it was natural that it will soon be introducing the ads on one of its mighty messengers.
But, what stopped Facebook from opting for ads on WhatsApp? Maybe it is an attempt by the popular social media giant to retain what WhatsApp has always stood for. It does not want to lose out the loyal user base that WhatsApp has been enjoying since long. That was what the founders Jan Koum and Brian Acton wanted to focus on since their initial days on WhatsApp.
Now, Facebook has found yet another route for monetising the platform. It has now been focusing on WhatsApp Business for its monetisation efforts. It has now been decided to make it a perfect option for business owners to communicate with the customers.
Facebook has been attempting to explore monetisation options for the platform ever since it has acquired the instant messenger service in 2014. Now that it has decided to go with the monetisation plans for WhatsApp Business, the regular users can heave a sigh of relief. That will keep WhatsApp free from ads for long enough.
