Clothing remnants and a human skull of a rhino poacher, who is believed to have been trampled by an elephant and then eaten by lions, have been discovered in the famous Kruger national park in South Africa.
The South African Police Service released images of the scene which showed a shredded piece of cloth that lay on the grass. Besides, images of the ammunition and rifles which were seized from the three accomplices of the deceased were also tweeted by the force.
As per police brigadier Leonard Hlathi, information regarding a group of rhino poachers entering the park on April 1 was received by the police. However, one of the men alarmed an elephant which attacked and killed him. The group later fled from the park and informed the family of the dead poacher about the incident. A family member then contacted the police after which the park rangers began a search operation by air and by foot and found the remains of the man near Crocodile Bridge situated deep within the park.
Indications from the scene suggested that the lions had mauled the remains of the man, leaving just the skull and clothing remnants, Hlathi said.
As per a statement given by police, the three men, who were aged between 25 and 35, were taken into custody in Komatipoort and KaMhlushwa precincts.
