South Korea is all set to launch the first commercial full-fledged nationwide 5G network this week, a move which might change the worldwide technology landscape in days to come.

On Friday, South Korea’s largest operator, SK Telecom will be launching its 5G service along with 5G-enabled Samsung Galaxy S10 variant and therefore claim to offer superfast speeds, best security as well as widest coverage of any of the 5G telecom operators.

SK Telecom currently has 34,000 base stations with 5G-enabled technology and coverage extending to the busiest areas of South Korea’s 85 cities which include motorways, university districts, sporting venues as well as subway lines. Apart from this, efforts to enhance the indoor 5G coverage in areas like airports and shopping malls have been taken as well.

Notably, it was in December last year that SK Telecom and two other South Korean operators launched their 5G services in the country. However, these 5G services weren’t mobile broadband service because of lack of commercial 5G smartphones back then.

Samsung was the first mobile manufacturer to launch a 5G handset this year in February, with a few others introduced at the MWC 2019 trade fair in Barcelona.

Meanwhile, all the 4 telecom operators in the UK have confirmed that they will be launching 5G networks this year.
